Nissan released its 11th generation 2-door rear wheel drive Coupe in 2003 and named it the Nissan Skyline V35 350GT, or Infiniti G35 for America. The Nissan Skyline V35 350GT is considered to be an entry-level luxury vehicle, more luxurious than the 350Z along with 2 more seats and a separate boot. Named 2003 Motor Trend Car of the Year the V35 350GT is comparable to the BMW 330Ci, but faster and more practical, offering more interior space and costing considerably less. Other comparison vehicles in its class include the Lexus IS 300, and Mercedes-Benz C320.

The Nissan Skyline V35 350GT Coupe is offered in two fully equipped models:

V35 5A/T Model – Base model with a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode upholstered with cloth.

V35 6M/T Model - All-new 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with Brembo brakes for 2003 to 2004 models (they were removed on 2005 plus models).

There are also optional factory packages such as:

Premium Package – Adds leather seats (for pre-2005 models), a sunroof, twin zones for climate controls, driver's seat memory and a Bose 225-watt audio system.

Aero Package - Installs a spoiler, diffusers (only available on 5A/T with Sports Tuned Suspension Package or 6M/T).

Performance Tyre & Wheel Package - Adds a seven-spoke alloy 18-inch wheels with Y-rated performance tires, 225/45 up front and 245/45 at the rear.

Rear Active Steering Package - Faster vehicle speed sensitive power steering; 15.1:1 steering gear ratio (only available on 2006 models with 6M/T premium package or 5A/T with Premium Package and Sport-Tuned Suspension Package).

Navigation Package - DVD-database navigation system; power retractable 7-inch colour LCD with vehicle information system (requires Premium Package).

Sports-tuned Suspension Package - Sports-tuned suspension, Viscous Limited-slip Rear Differential, seven-spoke alloy 18-inch wheels with Y-rated performance tires, 225/45 up front and 245/45 at the rear.

Along with other standard factory options such as leather seats, sunroof, splash guards, carpeted trunk side body moldings etc.

The Nissan Skyline V35 350GT features the impressive 3.5 Litre VQ35DE (NEO) DOHC 24-valve naturally aspirated V6 engine with aluminium-alloy block and heads and electronically-controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system. The new Nissan Skyline V35 350GT's award wining engine also has a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) and was named to Ward's 10 Best Engine list for four consecutive years.

This new elegantly designed coupe has a range of enhancements over its predecessor such as the E-VTC (electro-magnetic variable valve timing control), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) replacing the old HICAS system using sensors to reduce over/under-steer by applying brake pressure or cutting power from individual wheels, Nissan's newly developed direct-fuel-injection system for improved responses and better fuel economy, redesigned suspension to help reduce shock absorption by 75% increasing tyre contact with the road and improving the quality of your journey and zero-lift aerodynamics for progressive acceleration and strong low to mid-range torque.

The Nissan Skyline V35 350GT has a newly designed FM (front mid-ship) placing the engine behind the front axle allowing for a front-to-rear weight balance of 53:47, which factors in weight transfer during key handling manoeuvres such as entering and exiting corners. The FM platform also positions its large diameter wheels near the corners of the vehicle, providing an extra measure of handling stability.

The FM platform is designed to help protect occupants from strong impacts and large vehicle body deformation in a collision by efficiently absorbing crash energy. Front-end collisions include full frontal impacts, in which a crushable body construction is needed to reduce the deceleration g-force of the cabin. In a high-speed frontal collision, for example, the crushable zone crumples while the engine moves as if to drop under the floor. This has the effect of expanding the crushable zone, thereby reducing deceleration g-force and simultaneously helping minimize cabin deformation, especially in the leg area.

A very high level of safety is present inside the cockpit of all Nissan Skyline V35 350GT Coupes with standard dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors, front seat side-impact supplemental air bags and front and rear seat curtain side-impact supplemental air bags. Also standard are seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) child seat anchors and tether system.

The standard 17-inch wheels use ultra wide P225/50VR17 tires in front with P235/50VR17 at the back. Standard braking system components include 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

2005 coupes receive the following substantial upgrades:

• Interior improved with richer materials, softer leather, and real aluminium or rosewood trim.

• Leather seats now standard on all models.

• Revisions to the switchgear.

• Redesigned instrument panel.

• A new console.

• The same 280 horsepower in the automatic version.

• 6-speed manual transmission receives a boost to 298 horsepower.

• Brakes are bigger.

• Styling revisions for the front and rear.

• The revised Sport-Tuned Suspension Package is firmer and standard on the V35 Coupe 6MT and includes 19-inch forged alloy wheels, a viscous limited-slip differential and drilled aluminum pedals.

• New and revised taillights.

• A new exterior colour (Liquid Platinum).

• Option of Rear Active Steer System.

• Vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering, and 15.1:1 steering gear ratio.

• The suspension tuning of the V35 is more aggressive.

• Revised navigation system.

• Memory setting on power seats.

• An in-dash 6-disc CD changer is standard.
